About Sarah George

I am a Berkshire Massachusetts based Artist who has a passion and respect for all things wild.

In 2012, my needle felting journey began after my mother introduced me to the craft. I loved the concept of creating many different species of animals using the fibers of one. What started with creating small sculptures quickly grew into life-sized hyper-realistic three-dimensional portraits. In addition to needle felting, I hand sculpt all antlers, horns, and teeth using clay and gold leaf. Each piece is a study aiming for accuracy in creating the anatomy of the face. I interrupt the realism by bringing a spectrum of colors and textures that celebrate each subject for the elegant creature that they are.

Artist Statement

Influenced by the traditions of big game trophy mounting, my sculptures are 3D portraits honoring animals historically revered for their beauty. I incorporate varied textures, gold accents, and a diverse color palette to present these animals as ornamental pieces. By utilizing raw and processed animal fibers like sheep's wool, alpaca wool, horse hair, and feathers through needle felting, I aim to blend elements of realism and fantasy.
